Join us on Saturday, May 11, 2024 in Tampa at Al Lopez Park for the most joyous 5K around! The Girls on the Run 5K is open to the public and is for EVERYONE! We encourage walking, running, skipping, hopping - even dancing - to move forward.

It's a 5K like no other - capes, giggles, smiles, tutus, crowns, girl power sparkle, color hairdos, cheers and encouragement abound! Everyone is free to be themselves (AKA AMAZING) and complete the 5K at their own happy pace and with their own unique style.

The Girls on the Run 5K event is the culminating celebration for every girl who has completed their 10-week Girls on the Run or Heart & Sole program. In the weeks leading up to the 5K, Girls on the Run inspires girls to take charge of their lives and define the future on their terms. It's a place where girls learn they can. No constraints. Only opportunities to be remarkable.

  • This event is open to the public.
  • Strollers ARE permitted on the course. Children ages 4 and younger will not need to register.
  • Pets are NOT ALLOWED at the Girls on the Run 5K. With the health and safety of all our participants in mind, we kindly ask that you please leave all furry friends at home!

Packet Pick-Up for Running Buddies & Community Participants: avoid standing in line the morning of the 5K by picking up your celebration pack (event shirt, bib, and swag) at an earlier schedule packet pick-up.  Dates and locations coming soon!

COACHES AND CURRENT PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS DO NOT NEED TO PICK UP. YOUR BIBS WILL BE READY FOR YOU AT THE TEAM CHECK-IN TENT AT THE 5K!

SPARKLERS!

If you are a volunteer from our community who would like to serve as a Running Buddy (18 years or older who does not have a connection to a specific girl or team) you will need to register for the 5K, as you will complete the course, and indicate that you would like to join our Sparklers!

Click here to register for the 5K as a Sparkler: https://www.pinwheel.us/register/index/S245K

Sparklers will be provided with fun, sparkly gear and will serve as Running Buddies, Course Lookouts, the Sweep Team (so no girl finishes last) and more!

*Sparklers must have a cleared background check on file to participate. Background checks are completed online at no cost to you!

True

The course for a 5K is 3.1 miles.

As a reminder, this is a fun, celebratory event for our participants and not a competitive race. While our fastest 5K participants will complete the course in 25 minutes, most cross the finish line in 30-50 minutes. Everyone who participates is encouraged to walk, roll, push, run or skip at their happy pace!

First, we understand that life happens, and circumstance might make it impossible to attend.

We strongly encourage that all participants attend and complete the 5K, as it is the goal that teams are preparing for all season long! It’s the ultimate opportunity to build confidence through accomplishment. Remember, this is the first 5K event for many – including coaches, participants, friends and family members. We are in it together!

For safety reasons, every participant must wear a run bib (provided by the council). Our council ensures every participant has a running buddy, and only critical 5K volunteers have access to confidential information.

To ensure every participant crosses the finish line, we monitor the course and conduct head counts. Our council has a safety plan in place, which trains staff and volunteers on how to respond during an emergency or incident.

Yes. Girls on the Run 5K events are for everyone! All participants can walk, run, push or roll safely and at their own happy pace. Designated parking spots are available.

NO. With the safety of our participants in mind, we kindly ask that you please leave all furry friends at home!

Pets are not allowed in Celebration Village or on the 5K course at any time.

A Running Buddy is an individual (18 years or older) designated by the council or by the parent/guardian to complete the 5K alongside a program participant during the 5K event, for the entire duration of the course.

Yes! This is encouraged! This is a great way to accomplish a goal together.
